what a silly test. no offence but you need to learn how cameras work. i mean come on! are you seriously trying to compare camera's in 2 completely different settings? its absolutely ridiculous. its like trying to compare 2 cars on fuel effiency but one car has 5 people seated in it and the other car has 1 person seated. the only thing the 5dmk2 is better at than the sony ex1 is achieving shallow depth of field? due to a full frame sensor. but the ex1 is far superior in every other way.

0:35, raw untouched footage... Except one has manual WB setting and the other is automatic. The water is? smoother on the left because the shutter speed is lower, so it mashes more frames together. BTW at 2:20 you're burning out the image. And the detail difference on water is again, the shutter speed settings.

I don't know, what camera was called "ex1". My ex1r never makes? so bad picture - here it looks like soap. I've watched many tests 5dm2 and ex1r and others. 5dm2 does not take real full HD picture, so it can't be better than EX1.

yeah, i had the same issues with MTS over the past 5 years. Those camera's are impossible to import succesfully in FCP. I have an hdr-sr12 and it kinda reminded me of a pokemon, it evolves itself into something worse than it already is. You can try enything with those camera's but once you solved a problem the camera is just making new problems instead. So the only thing that worked for me? is throwing it agains a wall, and buy a camera that doesn't record in AVCHD format.

Im happy you asked. That is the stalk lens. I used a single light for that. No color correcting. Almost nothing I do has cc done. Very few jobs need it. Amazing DOF for a small camera. The best in its class. Im sure happy I never bought the HVX after? all.

Adobe Premiere CS3 now? fully supports .mxf files, so there is great support for the EX and XDCAM HD. Sony has variable framerates to 60fps.

Thanks for that...I am just looking around now to see where i can sell my HVX200 at a reasonable price...only a year old so hopefully wont make a huge loss. I also use the canon xha1 and its great even under a street light at night...just turn gain to manaul...select 0 and perfect no nooise at all. Panasonic has really missed that vital step here me thinks. So I hear the Sony does the? varible frame as well? Also have you heard of anyone putting the files in to adobe premiere yet? thanks again.

The EX more than beats it hands down. The Panasonic is 960 x 540 at the sensor, they BS everyone on the bitrate, and because of the small sensor, the "4:2:2" that they claim is equal BS. Sony EX is full-raster, has incredible noise-reduction/processing. I liked Panny products until they misled the world with the? HVX. We'll be posting some Z7 and EX comparisons soon, in low light too.

Thanks for the info...yeah...I am actaully scared to actually use the HVX on anything important now as the? noise is so apparent even in good lighting conditions. I will probbably sell it and go for the Sony instead. If you go to my page and look at the music video I just stuck up you can see how bad the grain is even in sunny outdorr shots. Was so dissapointed when I got the footage back on the computer. Im hoping the Sony will beat it hands down. Thanks.

It does very, very well in low light. So does the Sony Z7, incidentally. The Exmor DSP is AWESOME in any of the newer cameras. Then again, I'm not at all a fan of the HVX, it's noisy,? grainy, and too soft for my taste.

This was to save space on the cards and keep down the? bitrate while sacrificing very little on the image end. Not many prosumer cameras that i know of shoot 1080 and are 4:2:2. The HVX does shoot that way, but does not have nearly the amount of pixels on the image sensor as an EX1. If you find a side by side comparison let me know. Also, you can get 4:2:2 out of the EX1 if you use the SDI output!

for filming that kind of shot the 7D is like bringing a tampon to a gun fight, it's not quite the best tool to fight with... ex cameras are meant for wide shots that look super crisp while a DSLR is meant for dicking around with bokeh and being "artsy" Given the extra controls and features the EX has, I would? pick it up in a heartbeat over some DSLR camera for shooting video that's even remotely professional.

Once again, this comparison proves that DSLR's have very inaccurate natural colour reproduction. As the? gain increased on the 5D, the colours became way too over exposed and over saturated, whereas the EX1 maintained the naturalness in the colour. No contest the EX1 wins hands down unless you want a cartoonie look.

ah i got ya! well things get super complicated from there. for instance, a 5D can shoot 21mp, but only 1080p is used when shooting video. this means that certain pixels are turned off in the camera and not used. i'm not sure on this but i don't think this can be done with a CCD. so really, if you a are making a giant ccd that can shoot only 1080p, then you? will get increased dynamic range and depth of field. this is what the Sony CineAlta F35 uses and why it is so amazing.

Yes CCDs are better in quality but they are much different from CMOS. CMOS takes much less power than CCDs. CMOS can shoot high frame rates without cutting resolution because of it's capture method.? This is a problem with CCDs. The new RED can shoot something like 120fps at 4k. Also, a 1/3" sensor is the same whether it is a CCD or CMOS sensor. It's something like 5mm. APS-C sensors are somewhere around 25mm and full frames are 35mm.

We learned in school that CCD chips would actually have better quality and lower noise. So i really wish That someone would make a very good CCD camera with a big sensor. If? 1/3" CCD is comparable to a 36x24 sensor i can't imagine what a bigger one would do. As For the 7D being closer to 35mm, that's true. But when making movies they use 1.2F, 1.8F lenses - for example 85mm 1.4 or 200 1.8. Those lenses are very expensive. So i still prefer the 5DII even if it bit more expensive.

Of course the 5D will do better in low light seeing as it has a full frame sensor. I was just referencing the 7D because it is being compared in the? video. The 5D is definitely a stronger camera for video. But, some prefer 7D because it is close to 35mm film. I own a 7D. And most CMOS based cameras have noise reduction in the processing because CMOS is known for generating noise. Canon's remove the noise on chip rather than in processing I believe.

please correct me if i'm worng on this but I'd say it has a lot to do with the sensor size, seeing as the 7D's sensor is at least 5 times larger than the ex1's. and, also the option of choosing? a lens. i'm not sure about this either but it seems the lowest stop on the ex-1 is 1.9, whereas the canon can go as low as the lens allows.

100mbps AVCHD is not uncompressed. AVCHD is an MPEG 4 variant. Several things are wrong here. First of all the HVX is 1/3" CCDs that are 960 X 540 and only get to higher resolutions by spatial offset. The EX1R is 1/2" CMOS Full 1920 X 1080 resolution CMOS. P2 is only a Panasonic technology. The EX1R uses Sony SxS cards. P2 cards are basically raided SD cards. The EX1R? does slow and quick motion.

My niece wanted to record herself singing to a karaoke song. I grabbed the camera as an afterthought to get some nice shots if I could. It was somewhat shaky but hey it's just for fun. As a test for the Sony EX1 camera I am very happy with the image quality.

That mic is an M-Audio Sputnik. They go for about 800.00. But you'll find some really nice vocal mics from Rode. I suggest the NT-2a. For 400.00 you get a great package with a top quality mic, shock mount, pop protector, and cable. For 229.00 you can get the NT1a, but that's a tad brittle sounding. But if you have no budget, then go for that. These are mics with the most bang for your buck. Search reviews? on these mics.
