Hard Opening Posted by: DonioMax Video duration: 105 seconds The hard opening at the end of this AFF put me out of skydiving. The opening(from pitch out til my feet come into the frame) lasted less than 1 second. Normal openings last around 2-3 seconds. The opening broke the right steering line and I was hurting way too much to steer with the risers so I cut away. I wound up with a bruised lung and 2 bulgeing disc in my neck. If you look close at the start of the opening you can see the spin to the left. By: DonioMax. on 16 Jul 07, 03:08:54 The right steering line was broke and I was? in a LOT of pain in my neck, shoulders, and back. So much so I couldn't pull hard enough on the risers to flare. Getting under the reserve with toggles to steer and flare was the only safe choice. After you open sometime flare with your risers then you toggles and see how much difference there is. By: DonioMax. on 21 Oct 06, 14:27:23 The main reason for the hard opening, I feel, was due to packing. It wasn't my rig, it belonged to a friend who at the time hadn't owned it very long. The canopy was a Sabre 150. The old Sabres, like this one have to? be packed right because they are known to give hard openings. I have alot of aff video so I will post more for you. Good luck in aff and don't let this video scare you in any way. I haven't heard of anyone getting injured this bad due to an opening like mine. Well it happened ... I have whiplash? injuries also and some times neither injury completely heal.
