Georgia Tech Skydiving -- The Experience of a Lifetime!

Did you know that Georgia Tech has their own skydiving school? It's true! Since 1969, the GT Sport Parachute Club has been doing jumps and offering instruction for all skill levels from beginner to advanced. This club even competes on a national level and has received its share of notoriety and honor. There are a variety of options for various skydiving goals. If you are looking to have a one-time experience, then your best bet will be the tandem jump.

Tandem jumping means you are attached to your instructor. As you can imagine this is much safer than giving a newbie a parachute and having them jump on their own. The good thing about a tandem jump, besides safety of course, is that you don't need a lot of training before you can jump. You only need a brief orientation period before you go up. Your instructor may ask you if you want to pull the chute cord or if you want him or her to do it for you. The GT Sport Parachute Club does tandem jumps from as high as 14,000 feet.

You can of course jump on your own, but you will need a great deal more instruction before ever being able to do so. The drop zone for the club is Skydive Atlanta in Thomaston, Georgia which is only about a one hour drive from the campus. The drop zone is designed to be safe and is free from obstacles and trees. The hangar offers a classroom area, gear storage, lockers and more for GT club members. When you sign up for the parachute club you are in for a great experience!

When you're ready to experience all the excitement of Georgia Tech skydiving, you will need to join the club. Dues are $35 per semester as well as an extra $15 if you need to rent your equipment. Club membership is open to students as well as faculty. If you love exciting activities you will love skydiving. And, you will be one of the only people who can say they got to go sky diving all the time in college! It's just another way to make the most of your time as a Georgia Tech student.
